Such two-floor electric multiple units allowing low-floor boarding called “CityElefant“, manufactured since 1997 in Moravskoslezská vagónka Studénka, at present Škoda Vagonka, are more and more used for regional and commuter transport now. The open-space and air-conditioned interior of the electric unit in the formation of three vehicles has a seating capacity 300 places. Similar units were made for Slovakian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian railways.
For use already in the first quarter of 2014, the Czech Railways (ČD) have reconstructed in total 64 brake vehicles to manage the increase demand for transportation of bicycles and facilitation of transport of immobile persons using an electric platform, additionally built in the brake vehicle.
Electric locomotives with contact-free regulation (by semiconductor device) are fitted with new equipment providing a possibility of their remote control from a control vehicle rebuilt from an original passenger vehicle of the types shown in the picture. The Czech Railways (ČD) now operate already 34 control vehicles with altered electric locomotives like the one in the picture.
In 1999-2007, 50 motor vehicles underwent remotorization and interior alteration, to respect today´s requirements for comfortable travelling. Reconstructed motor vehicles of the series 854 are operated on on the fast train lines in the area of Prague, Brno and Hradec Králové Region. Some original trailer vehicles were rebuilt into control vehicles, which enable remote control of motor vehicles of series 854.
Freight transport by cargo shuttle trains will significantly relieve the road network of heavy freight truck traffic. At present, operating of such cargo trains types are one of the priorities of the company ČD Cargo, a. s.
